■■■総合技術教育研究センター Technical Education and Research Center

　本センターは、本校の教育と研究を高度化し地域との連携を促進するために平成６年４月に設置された。５つの部門（海洋開発機器、生物環境、情報処理、加工計測システム、社会人教育）と技術相談室から構成されている。部門横断的な「融合研究」による技術シーズの蓄積と地域企業との共同研究や技術支援による地域産業の振興、および地域教育の発展・充実のための活動を通して地域に貢献するとともに、実践的で創造性に優れた「もの創り」技術者の育成を支援している。

This center was established in April, 1994, to develop education and research at our college and to promote participation and interchange with the local community. The Center consists of five divisions (marine development, biological environment, information processing, manufacturing measurement system and engineer reeducation) and has a consultation room for technological questions or problems. The Center contributes to the local area through collecting sources for research in cross-sectional fields, developing local enterprises through joint research projects or technical assistance, and promoting activities for educating the local citizens. The Center also helps develop the practical and creative engineers for the local community.

（１）海洋開発機器部門 Marine Development Division

　本部門では、コンパクトな自律型海中ロボット、水中音響を用いた情報伝送システム、支援母船と海中ロボットとの位置や方位を計測するSSBL測位システムの開発を行っている。海中ロボットは、海洋環境、水産資源調査、水中考古学等に利用できる。

　In this division, efforts are being devoted to the development of systems for marine research, such as compact autonomous underwater vehicles, underwater acoustic communication systems, and SSBL(Super Short Base Line) positioning systems to observe directions and bearings of the autonomous underwater vehicle from its support vessel.Autonomous underwater vehicles can be used for investing in the marine environment, living aquatic resources and underwater archeology.

（２）生物環境部門 Biotic Environment Division

　本部門では、長崎県の主要産業の一つである水産業と地域の環境関連事業に貢献するために、海洋生物環境の浄化や海洋微生物による有用物質の生産、及び光触媒などの環境浄化材料や環境浄化技術に関する共同研究、研究会、技術相談を積極的に行っている。

　The main aim of this division is, in collaboration with various private companies, to promote technological development concerning biotic environments and marine environments in particular, in order to contribute to the development of fisheries, the leading industry in Nagasaki Prefecture. At our college, the chemical and biological departments take charge of most of this research. One of the major outcomes is research into the construction of artificial habitats using carbon fiber. This is a joint research project with Sasebo Technological Advancement Cooperation.

（３）情報処理部門 Information Processing Division

　　本部門では、画像計測、アプリケーションソフトなどの情報処理技術、及びロボットなどの電子制御技術についての研究を行っている。

　This division is engaged in the research of information processing technology, such as; (1) the development of measuring system through image processing or of application software; and (2) electronic control engineering concerning robotics, etc.

（４）加工計測システム部門　Manufacturing Measurement Division

　本部門では、歯車切削・プラスチック研削などの機械加工、材料強度試験・破壊原因解析、そして各種機械における振動・流動などの問題について研究および技術相談を行っている。

　This division is engaged in the research and technical consultation with respect to: (1) manufacturing issues, such as in the case of gear hobbing, grinding of plastic materials and so on; (2) the issues of material strength, Iike a test on the strength of materials or the analysis of the causes of breaking; and (3) vibration and hydrodynamics issues of various machines.

（５）社会人教育部門 Extension Courses Division

　本部門では、一般の方々対象の講習会を行っている。平成17年度には「一般教養講座」と銘打ち、「中高年登山者のための読図教室」、「絵本を味わう」、「親子おもしろ実験教室−身近にある科学の不思議−」、「ABC シリーズ−Travel Abroad−」、の４講座を開催する（写真は毎月第４土曜日の「長距離練習・記録会」）。

　 This division offers extension courses for the community. On every 4th Saturday, the practice or competition in long distance running is held and the runners are not only from Sasebo but also from the suburban areas such as Matsuura City or Saikai Town. The runners range from junior high school level to senior citizens.
　In Year 2003, a training session for using the mathematical formula software LeTex was held.
